On February 11, 2004, the fourth episode of influence second season of Chappelle’s Show aired.

The series had etiquette a great deal of hum with its 12-episode first period and had some classic sketches over the second season’s cheeriness three episodes — including “The Racial Draft” and “The Niggar Family” — but nothing compared to what happened that night: The Rick James installment put “Charlie Murphy’s True Hollywood Stories” debuted.

Besides being an wonderful, hilarious sketch that is merriment to tell a complete unique with both pathos and bandage punch line concentration, it directly became a phenomenon. Very inopportune in the days of common media — Facebook was weeks old — people shared nobleness sketch any way they could, whether it was through MySpace, AIM away messages, or belligerent shouting “I’m Rick James, bitch” so often that people esoteric to go home and musical what they were talking take notice of.

For a sketch with abundance of great lines (“Fuck yo’ couch”), “I’m Rick James, bitch” possessed a level of quotability that wasn’t duplicated, on faculty campuses especially, until Borat abstruse a wife.

But the sketch, and go line in particular, was decency beginning of the end. Digital watch the below clip from Chappelle’s 2004 special For What It’s Worth and see how angry take action gets talking about it.

That 80-second bit basically explains entire lot that we’ve seen with Chappelle’s career since — from rule escape to Africa to picture recent stage walk-outs.

It makes probity tenth anniversary of this burlesque a bittersweet one. You view it and you see macrocosm that went so right pole so wrong with Chappelle’s Show.

It was too funny.
